Tish Carnat has been a board member of the Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust since 2015 and is the instigator of the Milky Way Garden, acquiring it for her ESL (English as a second language) class learners in 2007 to allay food insecurity, and supported by Greenest City. The garden is the first parcel of land acquired by PNLT on June 15, 2017.

Tish has been an English as a second language Instructor for the Toronto District School Board for 29 years and has been teaching literacy to adults for the past 13 years in the Parkdale Public Library where the most of the learners are refugees and seniors and many are Tibetan.

In 2016, Tish was recognized for her work by NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo and Liberal MP Arif Virani.

Tish was born in Calgary and moved to Toronto to attend York University earning an undergraduate degree in theatre in the 1970s. She attained her ARCT in Speech and Drama at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Tish’s theatre experience includes travelling solo throughout south-east Asia seeing traditional local theatre and working in popular theatre and networking internationally.
